Over the weekend, CBP officers seized six marijuana, two cocaine and one methamphetamine.
EL PASO, Texas – U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents working at the El Paso port of entry seized 33.4 pounds of cocaine Saturday. The arrest was one of nine seizures by CBP agents working at area ports this weekend.
A 20-year-old man from Mexico was arrested on suspicion of smuggling more than 33 pounds of cocaine.
The incident occurred at the Paso Del Norte International Border Crossing at the El Paso Port of Entry.
CBP officials said a 2007 Volkswagen Jetta driven by 20-year-old Ricardo Lopez Estrada entered the port from Mexico.
When the authorities became suspicious, they had the car inspected again.
CBP officers said they found 16 packages filled with cocaine hidden in the car’s rocker panels.
Lopez-Estrada was handed over to special agents with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations, who are charged with the failed smuggling attempt, and was booked into the El Paso County Jail.
